Re: Rust in condensation pan

Hi Folks, This is a problem that we will all face sooner or later as the design and materials used in the Cruisair units was less than ideal. Beth Simkins is attempting to establish a relationship with the Cruisair folks so that we can do a bulk purchase of the new SS pans (plastic ones will not fit...

Solar panels

Hi Folks, This summer I decided to add a couple of solar panels so that when at anchor we could minimize running the generator. The results have been outstanding and I thought I should share the details. I installed two Kyrocera 135W panels over the aft deck bimini with a Prostar 30A controller. At ...

Bent shafts

OK....I'm going to share a "hot issue" on the shafts used on the PDQ 34. Recently we have encountered two boats with both shafts bent. A 2004 and a 2005 boat.In all four cases the "bend" was very similar in magnitude and location. As you all know from previous posts, shaft alignm...

Re: transmission oil cooler?

Hi John, Just saw you roost on this subject. All the oil coolers were supplied with the engines by Yanmar of Canada. Since the original supplier is no longer in business it is hard to say if they were unique or not. I suspect that it was just a standard yanmar part but one that certainly can be sour...

Re: Pearls from 2012 Owners Rendezvous

Hi Jim, James Power had several suggestions that I will ask him to cover as I hope to have cocktails with him tonight. I gave a talk on "New technologies" that, based on the questions and comments, was well received. I talked about twenty "new" things that are applicable to out b...

Beckson hatch vents

Good morning to all !! We recently noticed that virtual all of the Stainless steel Beckson vents that were used on the PDQ boats are now disintegrating below the stainless steel cover. I suspect a bad batch of plastic but in any case.... I have negotiated a bulk purchase of replacement innards (not ...

2012 Owners rendezvous

Good morning all, It has bee a couple of years since we had an Owners rendezvous so we thought we should try to organize a get to gather like the one we had two years ago at the same place, Stuart Yacht Harbor in Stuart FL. The date has been set for the weekend of January 28th and an e-mail has gone...

Anchor chain hook

Good morning and merry Christmas to all ! Carol and I like to anchor out and when doing so we always use a bridle. Over the years we have tried many different chain hooks and none worked satisfactorily, they all fell off sooner or later. So...we have just been tying the bridle on with a rolling hitc...

Re: Fuel Polisshing?

One additional note....the yanmar engines circulate about five (5) times as much fuel as they burn. thus if you are running at 3000 rpm you are actually circulating about 30 gal per hour thru your Racor filter. Run for 4 hours and you have polished your entire main tank !!!!
Safe cruising !!

Re: Racor Filters

Hi Folks, Just had to add my two cents to this discussion. We have put thousands of hours on various PDQ's all using 2 micron Racor filters with no problems. Needless to say it is MUCH better to have the Racor need replacement than the on-engine filter. The on-engine filter on our 100hp engines is a...

Re: Cutlass Bearing Replacement

Hi Chet, DUETTO's advice is right on. The "whipping" you notice is most likely caused by one (or a combination) of three things: 1. Bad engine alignment, 2. a bent shaft, 3. a worn cutlass bearing. The most likely is an alignment problem. We have encountered this on so many boats and it ev...

Re: Tides Marine Seals

Hi Ron, We have dealt with this issue (many times) and have come to some conclusions. First, in many instances the engines/shafts were never aligned properly at the factory. This fact was hidden by the flexible coupling installed between the transmission coupling and the shaft coupling. When there w...
