Re: Phantom Screens
It seems like the subject of the Phantom Screens is scattered over many topics. I will post here to thank previous posters for the lead on the Phantom Screens. Our door screen would not retract properly, so I disassembled it to find one end of the roller rusted and the tab broken off. After 11 years...

Re: 2017 Bahamas Cruise
Well, I think we are 99% sure we will NOT be going to Cuba this year. Apparently, no US carriers write insurance for Cuba yet, and the best policy my agent could come up with doubled my annual premiums, has a stiff cancellation penalty (they figured out people would cancel soon after the Cuba trip i...

Re: 2017 Bahamas Cruise
We have been researching a short visit (2 weeks) in Cuba with a lot of time in FL before and after. BUT, the insurance issue is up in the air, so we may be returning to the Abacos in late April instead. We have already been (with our sailboat) quite far into the Bahamas, but have no desire to repeat...

Re: bow running lights
Like James said, the Aqua Signal seems like a better product. I have not bought one for the PDQ yet, however.

Re: Fuel Tank Pickups
I wish I could help, but having been married for over 22 years, I haven't used any pickup lines.

I second that Perko products seem to be inferior.

Re: Adding a battery monitor???
Wow, guys! I am really sorry for not responding sooner. I have no idea what happened but I never saw an email telling me I had replies to my post.
That is great info and much appreciated. I'll report when I am done.

Adding a battery monitor???
Hi, all. We bought hull 91 just a few months before leaving on the Great Loop and due to prioritization of projects, my hope to install a battery monitor got postponed. I installed a Victron on our former sailboat and loved having good info about the Ah's in and out, state of charge, charging curren...

Re: How to screen off deck gap under aft seat
We had a custom canvas guy make some screens from a fairly fine weave nylon, but it doesn't need to be that fine. The upper screen guarding stuff from falling off the seat (or out of someone's pocket) is attached under the seat itself and then with snaps to the rear of the horizontal backrest. The u...

Re: How to secure dinghy
Our 9.9 four-stroke engine weights 90 pounds and we have always left it on (over 8000 miles at this point and in some very rough conditions), HOWEVER, the key is to absolutely minimize any dynamic loading. The dinghy must be strapped down tight and frankly, nylon webbing with ratchet hardware is far...

Re: How to secure dinghy
I use nylon web ratchet straps with SS ratchet hardware (the hooks are just plastic coated carbon steel). They stop all athwartship sway, but I need to use a vertical line from a handle on the dinghy tube to the davit crossbar to stop and rocking motion when the boat pitches in a seaway. Double-clic...

Thanks, Roger. We will take possession of a new gasket in a few days and we'll see how that goes.

Nova Kool door gaskets
We love our 7.5 cu ft Nova Kool, but noticed the frequency of needing to defrost the fridge compartment is climbing to every 4 days or so. I put a US dollar bill (they are different than Canadian in thickness and texture) under the gasket all along the perimeter and can pull it out easily. I see tha...

Re: E120 Backlight - Time to Upgrade
With us being on the Great Loop, I decided it a better solution to have my flybridge unit repaired rather than try to upgrade at this time. Steve at ETC turned around my unit in one business day and I just re-installed it. The backlight problem is solved for now. I was glad to get the info from this...

Re: Davit failures
I can't comment on the early PDQ davit weaknesses, but I know that making sure the load (the dinghy) is securely strapped and cross-tied to minimize any dynamic loading is critical. Dynamic loads can be over twice the static load.
