Re: Engine overheating
I have the 100 hp engines and had the same problem. We did everything you did. Problem not solved. I lowered the sea strainer until the water rose to the top of the strainer. That solved the problem. Go figure.

Re: Cruising to lower Caribbean on power cat?
Hi Dick,
You mentioned 2 sweet spots with one at 6.5 knots. At what speed/rpm do you find the 2nd sweet spot? Also at what rpm do you run on one engine?

Re: Engine instrumentation upgrades
Our 2006 MV34 has the same instrumentation. To me there are 3 main pieces of information that I want immediately. Water rising in the bilge, high engine temperature and low oil pressure. I solved the bilge water problem by installing two Aqualarm bilge pump alarm monitors in the bridge console. They...

Re: Water Pumps on 4JH
My local Yanmar dealer found that the 3JH water pump is the identical Johnson pump as the 4JH with a different discharge nipple and sells for way less than half the price of the 4JH pump. He changed nipples and successfully installed the 3JH pumps into my 4JH engines. Yanmar pricing policies??

Re: center cutlass bng.
Gusto had the intermediate bearings installed with the same results as Teamwork. My advice is do it.

Water Pumps on 4JH
I need to replace a water pump on my 100 hp Yanmar. The Yanmar distributer wants $876.93. Has anybody found a less expensive replacement?

Re: Water Gauge
In terms of the waste tank, we haven't added a sender and gauge. We've had them in the past and had to clean the sensor periodically. Not fun. I did install a manual overboard pump because the electric pump wasn't reliable and to simplify the system.

Water Gauge
It's frustrating not to know how much water is in the tank but we have been reluctant to buy and install an electric sender and gauge because we like to keep things simple. I built a simple device mounted on top of the access port to allow me to simply stick the tank. I bought a 1" diameter PVC...

Gusto, 34' power cat, will be leaving from South Florida for Bimini, the Exumas, Long Island, Eluthera and the Berries around the 1st of April. Anyone interested in joining? At least for the crossing?

Re: MV 34 bridge clearance with mast up (and down)
We can get under a bridge with an 18' clearance with what appears to be about a 6" to 9" above the light . Hard to tell.

Re: Flybridge Helm Cover
A helm cover came with Gusto. All the cushions fit forward and on top of the helm seat when it is in the aft position. It's easy to secure but helps to have two people secure it. One on the bridge and one on the foredeck to secure the snaps. Note the pole holding the middle up. If you have one, buy ...

The LilyLEDs.com website shows that the bulbs that I bought are indeed dimmable. Nice!

No they are not on a dimmer. They are switched from the standard PDQ rocker switches.

They are listed as "G4 LED (Small) - 2 Watt - 12 x 3528 LEDs" and are the 7th bulb down on their G4 section of the website www.LilyLEDs.com.

LED bulbs for ceiling lights
I have wanted to convert the bulbs in the ceiling fixtures to LEDs but haven't because of the expense. I bought one of the G4 side pin bulbs from West Marine for about $20.00. It was 1.2" in diameter and really had to be squeezed into the fixture. That wasn't good. I found 3/4" diameter LE...
