Great Loop 2024

Easy Riders will be starting the Great Loop in 2024, with buddy-boat We Be Chiilin' (honestly, only a Sea Ray owner would name his boat such a thing). We'll be departing from Florida, planning to scoot up the East Coast, then go at a much slower pace once into the Hudson. We welcome all PDQers and f...

Re: Solar Hot (Warm) Water For Showering ?

Thanks Chris and John ! That looks like a great product ! ... and I didn't even know it existed. I've got a solar panel upgrade and new water heater coming up on my list, so this looks like a good solution. Certainly, simpler that trying to deal with a deck tank and solar collector. I don't have eno...

Re: Boat Insurance

Hi Dennis - I'll answer on behalf of my cousin Alan - He gets a good discount for the combination of his location - very protected in Palm Coast - and for his Slide-moor system, which is pretty slick. When I moved Easy Riders' home dock from Madeira Beach, FL to Branford, FL up the Suwanee River, my...

Re: Engine Exhaust

Hi Bryan ! I've got the 75 hp's, so this may not apply to you. I've found that the trim of the boat has an out-sized effect on what shows on the dipstick. When I'm bow down with full tanks, the oil slides forward, showing a low level on the stick. On checking the oil, I leave the dipstick in for a g...

Re: Boat Insurance

Is anyone hearing anything on the Florida boat insurance market? I've been hearing that Geico is not renewing policies and/or raising rates. A newer PDQ owner says he went thru a broker and the best rate they found was Progressive at about $4500 per year.

Solar Hot (Warm) Water For Showering ?

Has anyone done a solar hot water set-up for showering? ... beyond the solar shower bag on deck?

Most of my genset use is for water heating when at anchor. I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos for camper set-ups.

Re: Ceiling Fans

Hi BJ - I switched to Caframo Ultimate fans. No cage, so it's easy to clean. https://www.amazon.com/Caframo-Ultimate-Direct-Cabin-White/dp/B0016013JK/ref=asc_df_B0016013JK/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309750302298&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17964270880774671786&hvpone=&...

Re: Service Manuals

Hi Nick !

I can't remember where I found this but downloaded it when I bought Easy Riders. Unfortunately, the whole thing did not download.

Try emailing Ben at Mastry Engine Center. ben_ray@mastry.com.

Re: Portlight Replacement

I've found it to be challenging to find the correct Bowmar part number ... very challenging. If you look in the vicinity of the hatch hinge, there may be a sticker with a Bowmar serial number, which may give a clue. The first 4 digits may be the series number. For instance 2000xxxxx may be the serie...

Overall Maintenance Schedule - Service Checklist - Info for New Owners

Here's a basic Service Checklist I've been working on, to help keep me organized. For new owners: everyone maintains their boats a little differently, so this list is not the "bible", it's just a list of what I'm doing, and it's a draft in progress. Also, I've left off some critical housek...

Re: Engine Access

Ha ! ... The Sage of PDQ has spoken ! John, you are a wealth of information. In all seriousness - earlier this year, I had been replacing the cockpit shower and wresting with the water heater, then did some other stuff and really did in my back. Dick Tuschick loaned me his book " 7 Steps to a P...

Re: Hull Parts, Bow Cap and Spray Deflector

Hi BJ - A far as I know, they are both parts that need to be built from scratch. After I got hit at Block Island last year, New England Boatworks fabricated both the bow cap and spray rails. (They did a great job on the fiberglass work. The rest of the yard is a disaster, and I would not recommend t...

Re: Adding Deck Hatches Above Shower & Galley

Hi Josh - the ventilation is pretty good with the hatch open and the head portlight open - more than I expected - and especially at anchor. The shower dries out fairly quickly. Adding the exhaust fan would provide more ventilation when there's not a breeze out. When it's warmer or breezeless, I have...
