Re: exhaust elbow

roger,

how did you discover that elbow was leaking? where on the elbow is the leak? is it where the raw water gets injected into the elbow?

Re: Tying up to a fixed dock

we've used old window sash weights run thru a pulley on the piling or dock and then to the mooring line. holds the mooring line out of the water.

Re: Reading Light Replacements

hi angela,

not sure of what you were saying. did the bulbs fit the std pdq sockets or did you have to replace every fixture? replacing every fixture does sound like fun.

Re: Transducer in head bilge

hi,

i think you have the "new" style head layout, so take my comments with a grain of salt. we have the original head layout and if you are talking about the hull beneath the shower floor, it is the actual hull.

Re: Changing A/C drip pans

hi russ,

i only did the main unit. limiting factor on pitch is the ceiling height of the seat. my aft unit is in much better shape, since it doesn't get used as much.

Re: Changing A/C drip pans

hi,

i did the ss replacement 3 years ago. it was very straight forward and new pan was an exact replacement. i also modified the drain by grinding hole bigger and making a "custom" opening with marinetex. also wedged the front of pan higher. has made a big difference.

Re: Inverter Charger selection

hi mike, this is in response to your question about "smart" inverters. the victron which we have is one of these. it can be configured to sense loads (eg. ac startup, electric oven cycling, etc) which might be more than the genset or shorepower can handle. it draws power from the battery b...

Re: Inverter Charger selection

hi marc, we had to replace 2 over a period of 2+ years. one failed outright on the inverter side and the other got flakey on the charger side. i believe based on web searches that they had 2 problems: 1) overheating because it was on the ceiling of the locker in stb stateroom under the driver's seat...

Re: Inverter Charger selection

hi rich, i just installed the magnum charger/inverter and so far it is working well on both the charger and inverter side. their support (via phone) was outstanding. with that said we have a victron on our pdq, which directly replaced a prosine, and i highly recomend that also. i did the replacement...

Re: Heavy weather strategies

well first, i've got to believe that a 41 is a whole other animal than a 34! with that said if it's more than 3' and coming at us especially if the waves are close together, we don't go. we have the luxury of picking our time. we have ended up in those conditions numerous times and the slamming on t...

Re: Hairline cracks on A/C strainers.

hi sandy,

a while back someone suggested to me to put the swimming pool tablets in the strainer to eliminate algae & other critters. it did do that but it also crazed the plastic bowl. so i stopped. haven't had the problem since.
