Relying on the battery charger to load the generator has severe limits because the load falls off as the battery state of charge increases toward full. Something like the main A/C unit is a much better option.
Good luck with your new generator.

Re: Great Loop 2024
Have a great and safe time, Mike.
We did the Loop and Down East Circle in two 7-month sessions (2015/2016) and loved it. Spend as much time in Canada as you can as it was the best part of the journey for us.

Re: Forward tanks
I use several square plastic kitty litter buckets on top of the water and fuel tanks to store lines and other gear. It organizes the gear and prevents the problems James mentioned. The square buckets obviously stack more efficiently than round.

Thanks, James, for that info. I just finished reading their blog from the beginning and it brought back great memories of our Down East Circle in 2015.

Re: Tightening Alternator Belt
Your research and quest for "perfection" is admirable, Mac. With the billions of belts tensioned by thumb alone, and the (I guess) tiny number of failures due to improper tensioning, the non-scientific conclusion is that there is a LOT of leeway in the tension values before it becomes a pr...

Re: Reinforced davits?
Bryan,
They are not the latest style of davit, but they sure look to be much more reinforced than the earlier models.
As you point out, the key is to secure such that there is no movement in a seaway.

Re: Tightening Alternator Belt
I have never owned or used a special tension tool. Speaking of manufacturer's recommendations, the Yanmar Operator manual has the following:

Re: Replace aft air conditioner
The access panels into the aft air conditioner space are different sizes port and starboard on our boat. I believe the starboard panel is larger and our unit fit through fine. Good luck.

Re: Yanmar starter relay
John, sorry I do not have any numbers. It is just a 12V relay, so almost anything will work, but get a better opinion before committing. Mac, if the relay is failing, it is likely going to be a no-crank situation. Sometimes it will crank and sometimes not. If the starter is turning and the engine is...

Re: Yanmar starter relay
Good advice, Dick. The starter relay in our port engine failed in 2015 and the mechanic wisely moved the new relay to the outboard hull for easy access. I have since had to re-work the terminal ends of those wires, so it was great to be able to do so easily. Since it is only a simple relay and Yanma...

Thanks for posting that. I had read that on the web back in 2015, but in some later year the website was taken offline. I had not thought to save a copy.

Re: Power Issue
We still have the original Prosine. We can (and do) turn the inverter off (disable) at the Prosine control panel when connected to shore power. All our 120V outlets work fine (same if the generator is running). We have not experienced it, but were told that if the inverter unit fails, you lose the a...
