Why not just use ascenders, or even prussik knots, and a harness?
The most recent issue of cruising world has an article on the subject. I know you are familiar with the method.

Re: Under bed storage project.
Agreed. :) At the risk of derailing this thread, Rebecca and I went climbing today (indoors, at a gym). I have done a bit of climbing before but this was Rebecca's first real experience. She is, as I expected she would be, a natural. I contacted a local climbing instructor today to see if he will go...

Re: Under bed storage project.
Very nice. I bet that works at least as good as our solution.

Re: Shrink wrap vs Custom Tarp
We opted to just have to cockpit area shrink wrapped. I got this job done for 250.00 cash: http://www.zerotocruising.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/shrinkwrappedkatana.jpg This is how Katana's previous owners had the job done: http://www.zerotocruising.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/shrinkwrap.jpg T...

Re: Transiting with mast down?
Thanks very much for the post and the offer of help! I have been to your website on several occasions but will go back and do some more reading on that trip. We, too, have heard that the Erie Canal is a great part of the trip, which is why we plan to leave Kingston early enough to take our time and ...

Thanks. I do actually already have that book. I guess I should get it out and read it (again).

Re: SSB on a 32?
Thanks for the replies guys. I really should have paid more attention in school! You would never know that I went to college to study electronics. This stuff (grounding, antennas, etc) is all very confusing for me.

Sounds like a cool experiment though, and some good impartial info.

Re: Transiting with mast down?
Thanks for the post Chet. Our trip through the canals will be one way, heading south, so storing the mast won't be an option. If the mast stuck out fore and aft on a 36 I would assume it would do so even more on our boat. I just made a post on our Blog about this question and the trip: http://www.ze...

Transiting with mast down?
The next addition in my never-ending series of questions... We will need to unstep our mast to transit the Erie Canal system next year. I assume someone here must have done something like this before. Does anyone have any pics of how they carried the mast on a 32 while traveling with it down? Thanks...

Re: Windlass base pad
It's all good. We haven't actually done anything on the install. My thoughts were that if we needed to create a base pad we could do that now, even if we didn't complete the install until later (our boat is shrink-wrapped on the hard right now). From the lack of posts on this subject I have to assum...
