Re: Cabin window treatments

Russ, Our shades don't ride on cords attached to whatever at the bottom. The cords are internal & kinda spring loaded up & allow the shade to retract with a gentle push. The bottom rail of the shade tucks neatly behind the cherry "keeper" so the shade doesn't swing. We anchor most ...

Re: Cabin window treatments

Visibility is very good from the PDQ lower helm. The lower helm is where we control the boat when conditions are too severe to be at the upper helm, i.e. rain, rough seas, etc. In those situations good visibility is critical. Permanent curtains create blind areas which severely reduce forward visibi...

Re: 2017 Bahamas Cruise

Gusto and Taryn Aweigh will be in Lake Worth this week. Wednesday's weather looks promising for a crossing to West End. Anybody else ready to go?

Re: Electric gremlin

Kent, Were you plugged into shore power at the time? If so the problem may have been caused by high or low input voltage. We had a similar problem. I called the Prosine help desk and they had me change the default settings for high and low AC transfer. The process is explained in the Prosine manual ...

Re: Light smoke from engines

Hi John,
Can't say if we noticed any difference because we have been using it since we bought the boat. We buy all our filters and parts from Mastry. They highly recommended the DEE-Zoll so we haven't tried anything else.

Re: Light smoke from engines

Have you had your injectors serviced? We do it every 1000 hours. Also, we use an additive called DEE-ZOL distributed by Mastry Marine, the Yanmar distributer in St Petersburg. We have 2500 hours on the engines and get a slight white smoke at startup, but none after that. Bob MacNeill Gusto 34#83/100...

Re: Thru Hull Transducer

Richard, I ran it to the lower helm, and tied it into a NMEA 2000 cable, then to the upper helm. The chase to the bridge is kinda crowded so I pushed a plumbers snake down the chase , taped the cable to the snake and pulled it up to the bridge. Not too tough. Now I have a Garmin NMEA multi function ...

We will probably leave for the Abacos from Lake Worth in early April. Anybody else interested in leaving in early April?

Re: Thru Hull Transducer

We installed a Garmin shoot through the hull transducer in the starboard hull in the compartment under the head compartment. Works great. Now we have a transducer in both hulls.

Re: Windshield Wipers

You may do better at NAPA, but I took my wipers to West Marine and spent the big bucks and bought what looked to be an exact duplicate of the entire assembly.

WE have used Mark Donaldson for the last 3 years. Excellent, honest, and fairly priced.

2017 Bahamas Cruise

We talked about a Spring cruise to the Bahamas at the Seminar in Stuart, FL. The tentative plan is to go to West End, then the Abacos, and leaving the remainder of the trip open. We plan to leave from somewhere between Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale around mid to end of April. If you would like to j...

Re: expansion tank?

We inserted the hose extending from the water heater pressure relief valve into a gallon jug which differentiates the source of bilge water from the heater or somewhere else. Now I know exactly how much comes from the water heater. My latest fresh water leak came from the transom shower hose thru tr...

Re: 10 Year maintenance issues

You should have Stuart Yachts install intermediate cutlass bearings. Our shaft seals leaked when we bought Gusto, 2006#83. That was 3 years ago. Stuart Yachts installed intermediate bearings. Since then they haven't leaked a drop. The shafts as built are at their maximum length between supports per ...

Re: Adding a battery monitor???

I installed a Blue Sea Systems monitor. I mounted the shunt on the bulkhead just forward of the batteries and connected the shunt to the battery with a short battery cable so I didn't have to cut any cables. The monitor works great. I can easily manage the house bank between 50% and 85% at anchor. T...
