Re: What are these D-rings on the bow?
The bow mounted rings are secure attachment points to use for towing or securing lines from storm prep, I believe. I recently read (I think it was Practical Sailor) that boats that used these type of bow mounted attachment points for lines in a storm/hurricane fared well in part because there is lit...

Re: Fridge Trouble
Question: Once you let the compressor cool down, and you turn it back on, does the compressor run for a period and then shut down? Or is it just not starting at all? Either way, it probably is the fan. If you have fans for cooling the compressor coils and the area where the fridge compressor is loca...

Re: Autohelm ST4000+ Problem
Hi Dennis, I had a similar problem with my autopilot before. There are a bunch of parameters that can affect this, including the deviation setting and latitude position, which if I recall ended up being my problem. Next time I get to the boat (might be a few days) I'll note all the autopilot setting...

Re: What an old PDQ 32 sailor is up to
I gotta say, based on that picture alone, the cabin on the 32 looks a whole lot more comfy than the F-27.

Re: OVEN ALTERNATIVE
I've been looking into this issue as well, as our 32 Altair does not have an oven.
We do have a BBQ grill however, and there are a number of websites that say BBQ grills can work fine as ovens with the right technique, though I personally have not tried it yet.

Re: Watermaker for a 32?
Maybe you could mount the clark pump under the settee and mount the filters/pressure pump under the sink in the galley. You'd have to take out the trash receptacle and use something else, but it would be accessible, located lower in the boat, and close to the salt water intake.

Re: Watermaker for a 32?
The starting batts in my boat are located one each in each engine compartments. It probably wouldn't be that big a job to relocate them if you wanted to do a lazerette installation. I thought about corrosion as well, but the well in the lazerette in the cockpit is covered and protected from salt spr...

Re: Watermaker for a 32?
I have a 32 LRC and am contemplating the same thing. It looks like ZTC located theirs in a under a cabin berth locker, not the best option on an LRC because the engines are in that compartment, and from what I've read I would not want to install a watermaker in an engine compartment except as a last...

Re: Need info on Bahamas trip please
Hi Sam, You can go to the Bahamas anytime. If you want warmer weather and fewer cold fronts, then Apr - June is a good time to make a trip. July and August a probably a little warmer than you want! Mid-October - December is also a good time period. Jan-Mar you can get cooler weather and frequent col...

Re: Trampoline idea
On an Island Spirit cat I had, the tramp was laced into mainsail slides that went into what were essentially mast tracks bolted on. I don't know if that would work on the 32.

Re: Diesel engine mounts showing fiberglass cracks
I haven't noticed such separation on my '99 32 LRC. It looks like they didn't tab those motor mounts in very well on your boat. It does seem weird to me, like Drew (thinwater) noted, that they are pulling out. With a 250lb engine on them you wouldn't think they would pull up like that. Vibration and...

Re: Preparing surface for new salon lexan windows
A tip I picked up germane to this thread re: rebuilding worn out/stripped screw holes. Use a small piece of cotton ball soaked in epoxy and push it through the worn hole. I used a couple bent paper clips to do this and to form the soaked cotton around the base of the hole as much as possible. I used...

Re: Changing running lights and courtesy lights to LED on PDQ 32
Following up on my earlier post, I trash canned the LED bow light, and purchased and installed an Aqua Signal bow nav light. I installed this LED festoon bulb in it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B8593GS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (HQRP 360 deg 41mm Festoon). It was $10 i...
