Re: Interior touch-up

Bob, those pics are so impressive. I've been "fairly" successful re-doing our floorboards by tediously and very carefully applying a "cherry" paste stain to the darker wood. Then covering with a satin oil based varnish. It's VERY hard to get the varnish on fast enough to avoid &q...

Re: bleeding process when changing fuel filters

Very helpful and interesting, Kip. Nice detective work. As far as cleaning the fuel tanks, it’s a good idea... especially if you experience any kind of fuel issues. I paid for this service on both of our fuel tanks last Spring. As you may know, it is not something an average boater can do - it requi...

Re: bleeding process when changing fuel filters

Interesting. Could clarify how you found and fixed the clog in the fuel line to the Racor filter.

Re: bleeding process when changing fuel filters

I agree, Kip. I record a lot of routine and annual maintenance actions like this in my "Notes" app so they are accessible any time, any where on my Apple computer, iPhone or iPad.

Re: bleeding process when changing fuel filters

Kip, what you are assuming is true. Here’s the procedure I follow when changing both fuel filters annually. It has worked for me every time. (Meaning nor air in the system) CHANGE FUEL FILTERS 1. Have 1 pt of diesel fuel (to fill new fuel filters) 2. Turn fuel valves on main fuel tank OFF before cha...

Jim, that is an amazing story. Thanks very much for sharing it. We will definitely be more thoughtful about docking fender placement.

Re: Rear side slide windows' pull/latch replacement

Here ya go... Replacing Salon Sliding Window Latch Procedure 1. Remove 4’ black plastic groove track at top (center) of both window frames… gently. 2. Remove exterior window first - Push up and pull out at bottom… gently. 3. Remove interior window - Push up and pull out at bottom… gently. 4. Remove ...

Russ, thanks for that suggestion... I'll play with the MFD settings and try to find something like you reported.

Re: A Second Depth Sounder

Thanks for that, Alan! Good to hear about the new Raymarine gear. We've heard similar positive feedback from several boat owners in our charter fleet about the new Raymarine gear... especially when compared to Garmin and B&G. Doing a full replacement is probably our next big investment in the bo...

DSM-30 Dropout Issue

I'm sending this message to a 2007 series of posts regarding DSM-300 shallow depth limitation issues. I'm hoping that there are some PDQ owners who have encountered and resolved a different DSM problem like we are experiencing. Our DSM-30 Depth Sounder unit intermittently drops out... meaning the de...

Re: Water in engines

I don't relate to the "symptom" of your raw water strainer filled to the top. Mine is always filled to the top and I don't ever have salt water in my engine. I just don't understand this report yet.

Re: Water in engines

Jim, I’m unclear about what happened. Did your engine compartment “fill” with salt water? Like to the point where it spilled over into the berth area? Or did salt water fill your your engine? (Meaning salt water got inside the engine?)

Re: Diesel Electric Hybrid power

Very interesting topic, indeed. It's too bad that the original PDQ company did not make through the 2008 recession. I imagine they would be moving down that path. As a by the way, my 2006 PDQ does not have a generator and, as far as I can tell does not need one. Instead, we have a Webasto diesel hyd...
