Re: Lazy jack lines?
On my 36, I have 2 primary lines on each side, which are split into 2 each, leaving 4 lines on a side. They are a huge pain in the a*s when hoisting, but I love them when dropping the main.

Re: Bowsprit
Hi AJ I have hull # 96 and we ordered it with a bowsprit and screecher. It does have the aluminum cross beam, but I do not know when or why -- or even if -- that was a change from earlier editions. The anchorage of the sprit comes all the way back to aft of the trampolines, so the compression load i...

Re: Mainsail Out-Haul Control
No. There is only one jammer in my boom. The reef jammers are on the cabin top, just forward of the the mainsheet winch, so I can reach them from the cockpit.

Re: Mainsail Out-Haul Control
I have a loose-footed main from Dave Calvert. On those very few times I mess with the outhaul, I step on the bitter end before I loosen the jammer that is in the boom. Then I am able to use my other foot to step on the line closer to the jammer to tighten it. Probably looks like the proverbial monke...

Re: House Bank Batteries
I am wondering if there are any updated opinions on this topic. My batteries are finishing their 11th season and are not holding their charge like they used to, so I am guessing it is time for new ones. We have solar panels plus the Xantrex Inverter/smart charger on our PDQ Capella, though we never ...

Re: Replacing self tacking jib with genoa
In order to have visibility, I had the factory cut my genoa 18 inches higher at the foot. Probably cost a 1/4 knot , but I am glad I did it.

Re: pdq36.com
very nice. One suggestion-- it would help if you could include the month and year when a vessel is sold. If a 5 year old vessel sold for "$X" 10 years ago, for example, that would represent a different bargain than the same vessel being for sale today.
Thanks for all your work.

Pointing to windward
I know we are supposed to bear off a bit and "get there faster", but sometimes I would love to be able to tack thru and achieve something closer to 100 degrees. I have installed a new Calvert main with full roach, and it is great, especially in light air but it does not seem to help with p...

Re: 9.9 won't run above an idle
This is an old topic but, boy, did it help me. We had just left the Rappahanock River area, headed for Baltimore last Saturday to head home and have the boat hauled for a bottom paint job. Everything was fine for about 30 minutes, until, all of a sudden the port engine made some strange surge-like n...

Re: Newbie - What to Watch Out for
Mine is a 2003 Capella, non-LRC, which we bought new. My only issue has been occasional leaking around the cabin windows. Flowable silicone fixes it right up.
Otherwise, we have been extremely pleased for 10 years.

Re: How to Disable Top Lock?
Assuming you find a way to disable it, don't forget to put something in to hold it down. Otherwise, in reverse the motor will try to climb right out of the well.
Keep the lock well lubricated or it might break off like mine did.

Re: New mainsail advice
Hi Bruce My interaction with Calvert Sails was exemplary. I am happy with the mainsail I bought from them with one exception, that is my fault - not theirs. I increased the size of the main significantly by having a fuller roach. However, i did not increase the jib; thus I have serious weather helm....

Portable Power Drill and bit for winches
Finally broke down and bought the bit and right angle drill motor to use to power the winches. I LOVE it! (Info at http://www.winchbit.com/) I have no commercial connection. Make sure you get the recommended model so you have enough torque. I had a friend use it to haul my 200 pounds up the mast, ma...
