Re: Carb gunk Ethanol?

As for your dink engine, we have experienced the same kind of problems. I have a newer 8hp Yamaha with less than 20 hours on it, but it sits without being run for long periods. After cleaning out the same kind of gunk you found, I can mostly keep her running half choked and medium to full throttle o...

Re: Bathroom Sink Drain

The top part of the drain that seals the sink bowl to the drain hose also broke on our boat. I haven't taken it apart yet, but will gladly give some feedback if I find a replacement.

Re: but he never had to deal with Yamaha USA.

You can be optomistically hopefully that Yamaha will stand behind their product, but please don't hold your breath. When we purchased our motors in 2006, a faulty CDI Unit had us inquiring about warranty work within two months of owning the engines. Our response from Yamaha mirrored Sandy's experien...

We also have a Paneltronics (made in Miami, FL). I believe all later PDQ 36's used the Paneltronics.

Rudder assembly

I am working on removing the couplings that attach to the rudder stock. They have a bit of galvanic corrion on them, making removal a bear. Our starboard Whitlock rudder coupling is slightly different than the port side. Both have four bolts for the coupling that surround the rudder shaft. The starb...

Yamaha 9.9's Running Hot

It seems like my stbd outboard is running hot. The exterior cowling is hot to the touch, but the "pee" water is cool (approx. 85 F). I pulled the thermostat and noticed that it is corroded. After letting it soak in vinegar for a while, I tested the thermostat and found that it opens at 150...

Re: PDQ36 sail-to-motoryacht conversion

What is the correct formula to calculate how much horespower is needed to achieve a specific boat speed? My wife has been on me for more motoring speed, 9-10 knots would be sufficient, but I could not come up with an accurate formula to determine how much horespower we would need.

Re: New owner/ electrical questions

Tim, How much did you modify the hardtop to fit the new 80 watt Sharp panel, with the 2 other 50 watt panels still in place? I've heard that the Blue Sky controllers allow significantly more power to pass through to your batteries. When you blew the 10 amp fuse, did you happen to notice how many amp...

Re: Haul out / Storage / Insurance in Florida

If you are willing to chance it, St. Augustine south to Daytona has not had a significant storm in the past 100 years. Check out http://csc-s-maps-q.csc.noaa.gov/hurricanes/viewer.html St. Augustine Marine can definately haul out a PDQ (we were hauled there a few years ago). They have some strong cr...

Bomar Hatches & Ports

When trying to find information or parts regarding our Bomar portlights & hatches, you can try http://www.pompanette.com/bomar. But many of their products have changed or been discontinued over the years. For more info call Pompanette in New Hampshire @ 603.826.5791 and ask for Francine in Bomar...

Between a suede leather chafe gear or firehose, what does anyone prefer? Either for everyday use or storm preparations?

Re: Windlass - Simpson Lawrence Sprint 1000

I have found two different bits of info from Simpson Lawrence. My manual states HT or BBB but the windlass descriptions I have seen only state HT, hence the question. Although I don't have my serial number handy, the original (installed 2000) windlass was replaced two years ago with a brand new one ...

Windlass - Simpson Lawrence Sprint 1000

For those of you with a SL Sprint 1000 windlass, does anyone use HT or G4 chain. We currently have BBB chain on the windlass, but we'd like to switch to HT and I can't confirm if the Sprint 1000 will accept HT chain.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Beckson Ports

I think you are on the right track with a lense polisher. We had our boat detailed this past winter and he buffed the saloon windows with a buffing pad and some lense cleaner (unfortunately I don't know which brand). I believe 3M and Meguiars make a plastic cleaner/polish which should work.

Re: Haul out / Storage / Insurance in Florida

Dave, A popular long-term storage yard in NE Florida is St. Augustine Marine. Our PDQ was stored there when we first purchased her. For insurance you can also try BoatUS. They may be a little pricier than some others, but you can choose either "agreed value" or "market value". Mo...
