Re: Replacment Trampoline & Sails from original

Ron from Triton is a nice guy, but he's slow. Took him 6 months to make me an asymmetrical spin. Also, communication was very poor. On the other hand, I've used Sunrise 4 times ( 2 Hobies, 2 PDQ's) and never had a bad experience. I think you made the right move.

Re: ACCESS to Pressure Water Pump

If I understand you right, you should be able to access that area by removing the cabinet/bookshelf that is forward of the nav station. That entire cabinet comes out. Again, not sure I'm reading this right, but I hope that helps.

Re: Watermaker install questions

Hi Mike, I'm a little confused about your plan. You said you can't put the Spectra under the starboard setee, but you said you were following Robs option 1, which is to put the pump near the holding tank but the watermaker under the starboard setee. Maybe you meant you're putting the whole thing in ...

Re: Watermaker install questions

Those are all interesting ideas. I have a Spectra 150 under the starboard setee in the saloon of Cat Tales. The raw water intake is aft of the shower in the starboard lazarette. I don't know the Schenker units, but the Smart series on the web site looks very much like a Spectra. However, the Spectra...

Re: marine plywood

I'll bite.
When I do any repair on board, I first see if I can use Starboard. If I can't (if the repair needs an adhesive, for example, since adhesives don't work well with starboard), then I'll use plywood. But I completely paint the plywood with West System epoxy to make it water tight.

Re: Center of gravity help

No need to pull the mast. I do this every year. Loosen rear stays enough so that the slings will work. Run halyards back to toe rail about 3/4 of the way back on each side, but not so far back that the slings won't work. Mast will be fine.

Re: New member questions

My 36 in Florida (Cat Tales) has the tall rig. The mast has a splice in it a couple feet above the goose neck. I was told that this was because Selden couldn't ship a mast the full length, although that seems strange to me.

Re: sail drive removal

Hey Bob, The top diaphragm on the seal of my starboard saildrive has unseated itself, so I think I need to pull the saildrive. The pictures you posted are no longer available. I'm wondering if you still have them and could upload them, along with any other info you think might be valuable. I'm going...

Side Window maker/model

Does anyone have the make and/or model of the side windows for the 36? One of the ones in the galley of my 2001 36 has cracked and I need to find a replacement lens. BTW, I mean the side windows (2 in the galley and 2 near the nav station), not the port lights in the cabins. I looked all through the...

Re: Location of keels & tacking ability - 32 vs 36?

I agree with this sentiment. I love cats and I wish they didn't turn like a damn schoolbus, but they often do. Your point about sail drives and wind/wave conditions is very much correct. On the Anne Z (an LRC with sail drives in Lake Michigan), I often have a great deal of trouble tacking. That's be...

Re: Location of keels & tacking ability - 32 vs 36?

"Watch videos of racing cats tacking; you will not see back winded jibs, you will see jibs brought in smartly as soon as they can fill. Speed is the thing."

I agree with this completely. I'm not a racing cat and I bet you aren't either. Backwind the jib.

Re: Location of keels & tacking ability - 32 vs 36?

I just backwind the jib when tacking. It's an old trick I learned when growing up with Hobie 16s. Almost always works like a charm.

Re: Water in the hulls?

Just reiterating what SMJ said earlier: Check the watertight compartments. I had water in mine in Anne Z. I ended up re-glassing a crack in the enclosure for the rudder post that runs through the compartment. It's documented in another thread that you can search for.
