Re: Courtesy lights
I didn't know we had any exterior courtesy lights.

Re: Buying a PDQ Trawler Cat
You are welcome, NDM. Keep in mind that all cats are weight sensitive. For our sea trials, we had minimal water (saving 600 lbs) and fuel (saving about 700 lbs), no provisions, and not much gear on board (saving lots more weight). We did have 4 people and a light dinghy/engine, and saw 16 kts at WOT...

Re: Buying a PDQ Trawler Cat
NDM, No engine survey, just a vessel survey and sea trial. I don't have access to the specs right now, but I believe 4200 RPM in neutral WOT and 3,800 under load WOT. Our turbo failed because the yard had it rebuilt and an oil seal failed so that it let engine oil pour into the air side of the turbo...

Re: Buying a PDQ Trawler Cat
Hi, NDM. I can't give you anywhere near all the answers to your questions, but I can offer this: I wrongly assumed that the 1500 hour 75HP engines in our candidate boat would be in good shape. Unfortunately, the port engine had a few semi-serious issues that required several thousand dollars to corr...

Re: Electric gremlin
Hi, Kent. I understand that some (all?) of our boats run the AC outlets through the inverter. If the inverter fails, there is no voltage at the AC outlets, even when plugged into shore power. Our Xantrex inverter has a switch that acts like a circuit breaker. Once the inverter stopped working (under...

Re: Heating Fresh Water
Well, Mac, I can assure you that on our 2006 model, hull 91, we get plenty of hot water from just running the port engine - no electricity required. I am embarrassed to say that I cannot recall from memory exactly how the plumbing is routed to direct the hot engine coolant into the water heater. Our...

Re: Phantom Screens
Kent, The screen door replacement just happened a few days ago after a not very good experience with their office staff losing my order and other particulars - twice! Anyway, the screen is essentially exactly the same as before, but the new latch is mechanical, with rods that spring into the locked ...

Re: Towing a RIB?
Alan, I will offer my two cents: 1. Some will disagree after much experience towing dinghies, but I do not recommend it. 2. The key is to develop a good system to hoist and secure the dinghy on the davits so that you can do it with a minimum of time and fuss. The harder it is to do, the more likely ...

Re: Cooktop replacement?
With all due respect, Mac, it seems like such a simple appliance. Ours has never given us any problems in about 400 days of use. What problems have you been experiencing?

Re: 2017 Bahamas Cruise
FYI - our planned itinerary is to cross from Key Largo or thereabouts, rest at Gun Cay, then cross the bank to the northern Berrys to clear in. Then we'll do a counter-clockwise cruise through the Abacos, crossing back to FL at the St. Lucie Inlet and returning to Punta Gorda via the Okeechobee Wate...

Thanks, Island Time. If I decide to use a diver, I will likely use one in my own town, but I appreciate the referral.

Propeller removal
I am a DIY guy as much as I can safely get away with. Is there any trick to removing the propellers on our MV 34 while in the water?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: 2017 Bahamas Cruise
Sam,
That is a very generous offer, but we have committed to the Abacos trip at this point and will not be able to join you on your charter. It does sound like a fun way to visit Cuba for a brief period. We hope you have a blast.

Re: transfer pump
For what it is worth, Dick Tuschick from Rhumbline Yacht Sales issues this advice, which we have used extensively: Keep the transfer valves open for the forward tank and keep the toggle switch set for transfer aft (this is what you will want to do almost 100% of the time). Make sure the transfer val...
