Forward hatch covers and the sun.

Post by thinwater »

* The only thing that really ages the polycarbonate windows is UV.
* There is no need for light in the forward compartments - they are sealed. If the lid gets latched while you are in there, you need to chose crew more carefully:)
* They are well positioned to slip on.

I don't want a fabric cover - I think that would make them even more slipery.

Why not paint them with white house paint (solvent-based paints could damage the plastic)? I would be open to something self-adhesive, I supose, but that seems overly complicated.

Can they withstand any foot trafic? Granted it isn't a good idea in terms of wear, but some less agile crew members may be better off placing a foot there than falling down. I might add a no-step sign.

Other hatches let light in the boat - a different issue. Does anyone cover the others when not in use? I know when I started covering the polycarbonate on my Stiletto the life of hatches went WAY up. Regualar waxing seemed to help also.
