baitwell

Post by amytom »

Planned a great trip on the boat with all the kids and headed out of Canaveral Locks and dropped 4 lines of the back. One on a planer with a skirted ballyhoo the other three diffeent combinations of spoons, cedar plugs, "live ribbon fish" lures, and frozen baits. Not a single bite! The only thing we pulled up was a soft coral off of Brevard reef1.

We eventually ended the trip early to avoid a mutiny of kids (6 of them 2 of us, not good odds).

Too make a short story long... I truly believe that live bait would have a made a difference but the PDQs weren't designed with that in mind. What does everyone use as a livewell for the bait?

I did see a 20 gallon bucket with airsource at BassPro for $100.00.

Any thoughts or ideas always welcome.

Why not a simple $12 aquarium pump?

Post by thinwater »

We do fish, and though I have not used live bait often, when we do we use a bucket and an aquarium pump.

When not in the bucket, the aquarium pump is in a simple 2 1/2 gallon aquarium my daughter (budding biologist) uses to collect small critters. It sits calmly on the shelf in her bunk. When it gets rough we sometimes move it to the floor. We keep a 30 gallon saltwater tank at home for local finds.

Since it is 110v, take some smart precautions; the pump should stay inside.

I did have a "bait saver" pump once - it didn't like salt water.
