Hi All,
I am new here as I never really thought about the PDQ 32 Altair Classic, reason being there are none to my knowledge in the UK, but the more I look at this 32 ft cat and the more I read the more I am interested in this cat, but I have a couple of questions which I would love to hear all of your answers.
I would probably opt for a twin outboard (in pods) version so as to keep the weight down for performance, but I have heard they can be noisy, has anyone sound insulated the lockers where they are located, and if so what has the noise level come down to, ie would when you are sitting in the cockpit you be able to have pleasant conversation when pushing along under power at abot 6 knts without having to raise your voice??
Also I have heard that they do not point well, is this true and if so what have you done to improve up wind sailing ability.??
I look forward to your replies.
Thanks
Ian
PDQ 32 Questions
The outboard noise is not high in pitch.
It is more like the noise from a larger inboard and is not difficult to talk over inside. Also, at 6 kn you are only at ~ 1/2 throttle. Full throttle is ~ 7.4 kn.

Re: PDQ 32 Questions
Hi Ian! welcome to the PDQ Forum. The 32 points as well as any cat with shoal draft keels, and better than most because it has a more modern foil section, but its always better to crack off a couple degrees and keep the speed up to reduce side-slip. That will get you to the weather mark ahead of anyone pinching.
