On our 36 we have a Phantom "rollup" screen door. It was custom installed in 2000 in Ft Laudredale - the guy showed up with his truck, measured and cut to size, installed it in about an hour for about $200+. Its the perfect device for a sliding patio style door - no problems at all in 9 years - keeps the cats in and the bugs out.

the slider leaves unguarded. I think it is a great idea - it does not add complexity of entering and exiting, and can be left rolled-up on the slider. In a real thunder storm we would still have a problem, but they don't last.

But I haven't done it yet.

Also, when it comes time to clear the remaining bugs from the cabin, please check my blog for a description of the best method. You've got to try it, if you have not.

I put velcro around the entire track and then cut a piece of screen the same size and put velcro around the edge. Simply attach and go. Just one tip, put the loop end of the velcro on the door track and leave the hook end on the screen, otherwise you can catch clothing on the door edge going in and out.

We bought a velcro/screen kit from Improvements catalogue. See

Had to trim it, but it works great and is lightweight.

This screen fills the space from bulkhead to hardtop.

We can stand up, it isn't in the way, the door works in the normal manner, and we get full ventilation. It seems like the simplest solution, and I only spent ~ $5.00.

I'll tailor it a bit more, as we prove it out.

After several bug-filled nights, I declare this a success. Though I am certain it could be exicuted in a more complex and permanant fashion, I am convinced that the placement and function are dead-on. Good ventilation, quick install each night, standing headroom, nothing to fiddle with in the doorway, and minimal storage space (fits in one shoe holder slot).
