BOMAR hatch/port

Post by MIDORI »

MIDORI suffered a little damage when the main sheet caught on the starboard aft hatch. The BOMAR frame is bent (a little) and the lens is cracked. The aprox. outside measurement of the port is 17 X 11 1/2 does anyone know where parts can be had.

I am sure I am not the first to have this damage, is there any suggestions how I can avoid repeating the damage?

Sunny and warm in Boot Key Harbor.

I always close the furthest aft hatches when sailing. They are just too close to the traveler. I do this before I hoist the sail.

Can you simply bend the hatch straight?

Replacing the lens is not difficult, depending on how much shop you have available to you. Just get a piece of acrylic or Lexan and cut it to shape. You will need a plastic cutter (like a glass cutter), and grinder of some sort, and a hole saw. I believe the factory used silicone caulk on the lens and butyl to bed it to the deck.
