crawl space windvane install

Post by venelia »

We just bought a monitor windvane. This version is especially made to work on cats. My question is if anyone has installed one before. It requires bolts to be placed on the stairs to hold it. The instructions also say to move the ladder to the port stairs to make room for it (not sure if it is actually necessary since it bolts go on the second step and not the first). Has anyone ever moved the ladder?

Also, we are thinking that the only way to put the bolts through that second-to-bottom step will be to cut and latter patch a hole down there because it seems like too small of a space to be able to manipulate bolts in. Any other suggestions if we cannot reach it in the crawl space by hand?

Depending on which hull number you have you may be able to access the underside of the stairs by contorting yourself through the aft hatch and over the steering quadrant. Some hulls are closed off at this point while others are open and allow you to reach under the steps. A young and skinny relative is always helpful in this case.

Let us know how well it works out, it'd be nice to have an alternative to the energy hogging autopilot.
