A beautiful sunny day in New Buffalo, Michigan motivated me to replace the solar vent on the dock of Phenix. This is the one that vents the forward port locker. It was 15 years old and in addition to people having stepped on it and cracked it, it didn't run at night. I bought this one by Nicro Marine - Nicro Day / Night Plus Solar Vent, # High Power - 1000 CFH, # 4" vent, White cover, Manufacturer Model #: N20704W
I needed to get the old one out, which was a Nicro one also, but it didn't come easy. No screws to be found, just some plastic clips that had no chance of coming off after 15 years. So a claw hammer, did the trick!
Once I got the old fan out, I cleaned up the area, but a bit of epoxy to close up a few small spots in the hole, then I put the silicone sealant down, followed by the gasket and the base plate, followed by the fan itself. Not too bad once I figured out that I didn't need the interior trim ring supplied with the new fan, as that is only for decks that are greater than 1".
Instructions with the fan were pretty good. I can't wait for it to rain to find out whether it leaks!
Here are a few pics.
