Slip Prevention

Post by thinwater »

Not a fun sailing topic, but since I very narrowly avoided a nasty shoulder injury I thought it worth sharing. I landed with my full weight on the pointy end of a stanchion.

Surely there are many places to slip on any boat and most are obvious enough. The builder textured the gel coat and with good shoes most are tame enough. However, the sloped area around the side deck gets me once in a while, generally when I'm carrying something through this awkward passage. I've added some non-skid and I like it much better.

One bad fall can mess you up for years--I've spent 30 years living with a broken knee cap from my bike racing days--so give this consideration.
