What Windlass do you have on your PDQ 36?
Power or manual?
Good and bad points?
Looking to add one, wondering what to buy.

I installed a Simpson Lawrence Sprint 1000 2 yrs ago on Allez-Cat, a PDQ 36
hull#10. Co-ordinating with Simon Slater I moved the Stbd bow cleat outboard a
few inches and positioned the windlass with a fairlead from the bowroller
generally in the position where the cleat resided. The deck is cored with
plywood in this area which you can see on a sunny day looking up from inside the
locker. I positioned the up/dn switches adjacent on the deck and use 150' of
5/16 HT chain shackled to a 35# Delta. The wires were run under the deck to the
bulkhd, thru a watertight fitting, down the backside of the stbd closet, thru
the bilge to the area under the Salon sole and relays under the Salon seat

I am very happy with the setup. The chain has a good drop and piles nicely on
the bottom of the hull. I did have trouble with the unit retracting but not
paying out about 6mos after install. S/L sent me a brand new unit which is
working great now for over a year. I have the unit with a drum on top and use a
halyard thru a block to the drum to go up the mast

Hope this helps

I use a Maxwell 1200 with an all chain rode on my 36 CATNAP. I have had problems
with it, and just replaced the electric motor. Part of the problem was misuse

One is supposed to use the boat to break out the anchor not the windless, also
ensure that you do not go from raising to lowering withour a pause, and I am
sure the windless was abused by the previous owner. Since the 36 is relatively
light, if you use line instead of all chain, a manual windless would probably
work ok. However, I often single hand CATNAP, and with my Maxwell, I can control
the anchor from the helm, which is important for single handling. When it works,
which I beleive it now will, the electric windless is a dream.
