Lookin' for info on "Catch22" 1992, PDQ 36.

Hello..

I am looking at "Catch22" which is hull# 22 built in 1992. She has been for sale
for a
good while. I am thinking of maybe putting in a bid on her.. BUT have a rather
important
concern.

I know a bit about Catch22's history and have found out some about her owner who
is now deseased. I know the boat has been back to factory for some mods and a
hardtop.

This past wkend I was in Annapolis to look at a few cats and put a bid on one we
really liked , but alas the offer was refused, we feel owner wants way too much
and
doesn't really want to sell her, but will for a fortune $$$.. :-(
While looking around we again looked at Catch22.. BUT another yacht broker says
that
she was wrecked pretty bad, ie. hit by a cruise ship of something to that
effect, and he
would stay away from her (he's not the broker selling her) ?? Not sure if his
story is
true or not, or just to scare us away from other broker and into his office.. I
had not
heard that she had been wrecked, and her hull sure doesn't look like it.. BUT to
be safe
thought I would put out a few feelers to see if any other owners of PDQ's may
know of
the history of this PDQ, "Catch 22" hull# 22
Any and all info will be appreciated and kept confidencial
Also any leads to any owners of PDQ 36's looking to sell will be greatly
appreciated..

We have looked at a LOT of cats but keep coming back to PDQ, now we just have to
find one in good shape for sale... This will be our home in retirement and
sailin' the
islands and southeast coast

Thanks in advance for any help offered..

I inspected Catch 22 in 1999. The boat was not used since than. I don't believe
she was hit, but she isn't worth her asking price which was $150,000 at that
time.

We looked into buying Catch 22 ourselves. Had a good look around the boat. I
doubt very much it has been in a serious accident. I'm a naval architect /
mechanical engineer and though we didn't have it surveyed, it's hard to conceal
evidence of a serious accident

I also chatted with Simon Slater, the president of PDQ about the boat and he
wasn't aware of any problems with it. Hard to believe that he wouldn't know of
that sort of incident

Any chance that the other broker with the story worked for Bay Yacht Agency?
Their name came up on the multihull email list as some people with somewhat
dubious business practices..

By the way, the only reason we didn't buy Catch 22 is that we couldn't get a
loan! (we're Canadians living in the US with little credit history)

For what it's worth, our PDQ hit the rocks at Chubb Cay in the Bahamas. The
person who bought her had her restored under factory supervision. We have owned
her for about 4 years, and we have had no problems related to the wreck (don't
ask about mechanical issues). If you like the boat, have a very good surveyor go
over it with a fine tooth comb. If she checks out, I wouldn't worry too much

Sometimes the restored boats are in better shape than the others. Good luck.
