Cabinet latch

Post by wake up »

Any one know the part number and supplier for the plastic cabinet latches. looks like they fit into a circular hole about 1 1/2 across. Mine have become brittle.

Thanks

These are the same latch that I have a problem with keeping my cabin and head doors shut with. Anyone else have that problem?

See my post from yesterday...

For what it's worth, we are the sort who balk at $27 for latches, but spend several boat units on 12" GPS screens. Our latches weren't brittle, but some would not latch, and most were filthy yucky dirty. On a slow day, I took each latch off, marking them as their position on each cabinet door, and soaked them in Vinegar and Detergent - eliminated all the grease and black mold. When re-assembling, some flat foam strips under one edge helped align the latch better so it caught. All function well now - one of just several items on board we haven't replaced.

That being said, go to eBay and search under Southco latch, there are better deals than $27 per latch.

Also check under Classifieds on this forum and call the folks in Canada who bought out the remainder of PDQ hardware parts.

McMaster Carr has the same latch, 2" size, listed for $14.95 (search Recessed Ring Pull-to-Open Latches), maybe they also have the size we all need?

D.B. Roberts (http://www.dbroberts.com/) is a Southco distributor. They list the latch at $20.43 in single quantities, but the price drops to $10.54 for 10 or more. I've never ordered with these guys, so can't help you there.

I've had good luck buying from McMaster Carr in the past.

One other note: There are several part numbers depending on panel thickness - be sure to order the correct one.
