coach roof rings

Post by wake up »

I have 2 moon shaped pad eye rings on the top of the coach roof. They are connected to the aft stainless steel rods that tie into the structure. (The forward rods tie to the shrouds)
What were these originally designed for?
Mine are not used.

We bring our main halyard to one on the port side to keep from slapping.

They are a convenient place for a halyard. They look like a place to connect a running backstay, but as the boat's don't have fractional rigs, there is no need. It could also just be a good use of the backing plate for the coach roof supports. Perhaps James or Sandy knows...

You are right Eric. The aft rods are there to support the deck and the rings are a usefull by product. James
