"Mail Order" Sails

Post by martincreek150 »

I going to be working with three local lofts on a new jib and mainsail. I'm intrigued by less expensive, "mail order" sails, but I'm intimidated by the measurements required.

Is there a pre-existing, sailmaker database that sailmakers use to crank out "mail order" sails? Our old sails (very old sails) have some kevlar/mylar reinforcing at the tack/head/clew. Would "mail order" sailmakers already know about the additional stresses experienced by catamaran sails?

Does anyone know whether PDQ left behind any sail specifications? And, how we could lay hands on them? I could be satsified with 1990s technology, if I knew it came from the manufacturer/designer.

Check this file:

2008 PDQ36 PHRF Rating

on our www.pdq36.com website for some dimensions. Just make sure you check them with your sail, there were a few different mast heights over the production years.
