PDQ 36 Bluewater safe?

My wife and I are considering the purchase of a PDQ 36 and intend on living
aboard and if all goes well circumnavigating the globe. Has anyone heard if a
PDQ has completed a circumnavigation. Those of you who have one, do you think
the PDQ 36 is capable and will provide a safe and comfortable journey. I am also
concerned about the banging or slapping of water on the bottom of the bridge
deck. This will not be a rushed trip and we will avoid as much bad weather as
possible as well as huricane and cyclone seasons. We really like the PDQ
compared to all the others that we have looked at. We would really appreciate
your honest feedback on this so we can make our final decision. Thank you,
Darrel

Hi Darrel: I took my 36, hull #78 off-shore from N.C. to the Bahamas with one
crew member last Oct. After getting to the other side of the "stream" the
tropical depression(we were trying to stay on it's western edge) stalled,
resulting in three days of true 18 to 20 ft seas and winds in the constant 28 to
34 knot range(from nw), exiting stuff!!. Averaged 9.5 knots for the short trip,
and saw 16.2 GPS in a severly reefed configuration. We left the Bahamas this
past spring and sailed to Bermuda, eight days in moderage to heavy conditions

We had intented to catch up with the Atlantic Cruisers Assoc and tag along to
the Azores, I ran out of time with yacht sales really picking up here at our
dealership in Oriental, NC. We sailed the boat back from Bermuda in August after
a couple of months exploring the island. We are actually trying to get another
trip to Bermuda this November(work permitting). I have done a lot of "blue
water" stuff, mainly on monos, I have every confidence in the 36 in an off-shore
passage. I've never felt safer (or dryer!)in the big blue. Go for it!! jack
"mojo" hull #78 2000 36

Hi Darrel,
I have sailed Allezcat(Hull#10) for 8yrs now and feel she is ocean capable

Colin Swithenbank is starting out soon on Cadenza (a PDQ36) for Bermuda and the
Virgins via open ocean

Having crewed with friends on their round the world voyage on a Prout
Quasar(50')(which also pounded going to weather),I would question the storage
capability of a 36 for all the personal items, safety equipment, spare parts,
and foodstuffs

Having said that, we did encounter a couple 35' Prouts doing cicumnavigations

Summarizing, I think pounding would be low on my list of boat selection for such
a voyage. How about a new 42?
Best of luck,
Chet White - Allezcat/Hull #10

I have been in the Ocean with 40 knot winds and appropriate waves, when properly
reefed, if necessary, the 36 handles great. You would not want the dinghy on the
davits, the anchors in the Bows etc. etc

But I doubt if the 2 9.9's Yamahas can go into 25 knots of wind and waves, you
would need diesels to punch in. But if your in no rush, and have leeway, nfall
off.

Hi, Last year Dick Wood in Kia Orana,& me in Here's 2 Life, powered across
Albemarie Sound in 35-40 kts of head wind (we're both nuts),& high, short
seas, with Yamaha 9.9's. It wasn,t fun ,but the engines pushed us right along
very nicely

Marc
