Anybody know what would be involved? Is it practical?

You might be happier just buying an LRC with shaft drive instead of sail drives.

Not practical at all. Perhaps Electric Outboards with a large diesel genset might do the trick.

"You might be happier just buying an LRC with shaft drive instead of sail drives."

Thanks amytom but my understanding is that all the PDQ36 LRC models had saildrives and that the Antares 44 has the straight drives. Now if I could get an Antares 44 for the same price as a PDQ 36 you would be correct in assuming that I would be happier, in fact I would be much happier!

My mistake I guess. Though it does make sense as the engines would have to be quite far aft and may not be room for shaft drive in front of the rudders.

I actually doubt if the 36 hull has enough vertical height between the underside of the cabin floor at hull midpoint and the floor of the hull itself to accommodate the height of the engine/ gearbox assembly

If I were going to consider this, I would stretch her to 40' a the same time; she's going to drag.

I'd need to close up the bays and neaten that up at the same time.

I would probably just buy a different boat.

Sun Suite is a factory built outboard and diesel configuration. Sam the Skull came to see the configuration before completing his conversion.

There is one outboard, mounted in the normal way on the starboard side. The quarterberth on the port side houses the 3JH3 yanmar diesel (40HP)with SD40 saildrive. According to sources, the original diesel was a 27HP Volvo with saildrive. I am the second owner and have owned it for over 10 years. This setup has many advantages and few drawbacks.
