Stern mounted outboards

I am new to PDQ's but not to cats. Reverie is a 36 LRC and has 2 18hp yanmars.
I have been reading the forum for the last few weeks while Reverie is getting a
lot of upgrades. I have owned a main cat 30 with twin outboards similar to the PDQ
and I hated the restricted access to the motors. I noticed someone had fitted a 36 with
SS stern brackets and Honda engines there. How did that work out. It appeared that the
owner sold the boat shortly after the conversion. Does anyone have the scoop on that boat ?

We had a large hatch cut into the Shower stall which gave us unrestricted access to the starboard engine. Access on the port engine was already OK.

Thanks for the the info Terry,
I have a short door in each shower ( Reverie has 2 heads ) but the access is restricted to the
front of the motor. Did you enlarge an existing hatch ?
Mike

The hatch was cut from 3" above the shower floor, across the angle to 3" below the upper (3" all around). A seal was placed and it was secured with sliding pins. We had it done in Annapolis by a professional marine carpenter. I don't have any pictures and we no longer own the boat. After the surgery was done I had complete access to the engine.

Wow, that sounds perfect. I assume that left enough strength in the bulkhead for support.

I will look into having this done to Reverie.

Thanks,

Mike
