Back Into Slip - Why - Exhaust Loop

Post by Catrina »

I often wondered why the Previous Owner's workbook from PDQ University for the On Water session had "BACK INTO A SLIP WHENEVER POSSIBLE". In addition to putting in all Caps, it had also been highlighted.

I may be wrong, but I think I have the answer. In high winds storm water was pushed into my exhaust and flooded the engine. During the insurance claim process the surveyor and mechanics determined that my exhaust loop hose did not have sufficient rise. Boat was in fresh water so it was sitting lower in the water.

There was plenty of room at the rear of the engine compartment to put a higher loop using a new longer exhaust hose.

The survey process also found that the anti-siphon "piddle tube" had a small dip in the tube where it went thru one of the walls. That is something that was corrected, the tube should have No spots that might cause the siphon to not be broken.
