transmission oil coolers

Post by duetto »

hi all,

this spring i thought after 2800 hrs i'd spring for new trans oil coolers. when we hauled the boat i decided that i would get the existing ones out so the new ones would go right in in the fall. there was good news and bad news. good news was they look pretty close to new with no corrosion whatsoever. bad news is that both had about 1/3 of the tubes plugged with some kind algae goo. the trans oil cooler is the first thing that water hits after the water pump so i have to assume that this hurts the raw water cooling as a whole. 5 years ago i used rydlyme on the raw water system but haven't done anything since. from now on i'll be at least cleaning these every couple of years.
