John,
Replaced my roller this past Spring and like you figured I could pick one up at WM. The 2 3/8" roller must be an odd size as I checked several marine supply stores and couldn't find the replacement. I ended up back at WM and bought the 3" and shaved an even amount off of each side until it reached 2-3/8". Jim

jim,

thanks for the reply. so i assume from your reply that the 3" is too big. what tool did you use to cut it down.

the original is available direct from kingston...$61...yikes!

Yes the 3" roller was too wide so I trimmed a little off of each end with a bandsaw, worked real nicely.

Hi All -

I went to un-screw the existing roller, and the screws spin in place and don't want to come out, although I was not putting much force on prying upward. The screws did tighten back down. the underside of the deck is not accessible to see what the hardware is underneath.

Does anyone know what the design is or have removal tips?

Hi Mike,

It sounds like you are trying to replace the roller wheel- if so you dont need to remove the whole stainless bracket, you only need to remove the wheel “axle”bolt.

The bracket bolts have nuts that you can see from the chain locker access, but it looked tricky to actually get to them- so I wouldnt try to remove them.

I replaced my wheel last year with this one from Defender that fit perfect:
Kingston Replacement Bow Roller Wheel - 2-3/8" x 3-7/8"

Hope that helps!

Thanks Doug !

I was going to replace the whole assembly, plate and all. I see the nuts now thanks to your help.... maybe I can fit my 2 year old grandson through the locker hatch !

I had to crawl into the chain locker to tighten the mount bolts once, not easy. The 2 year old sounds promising.

Hey James, Roger Comer here. Hope you are doing well. The access port in my boat is 11 1/2 × 7 1/2.
I know I can't get in there.
The fwd bolt has broken off. My thoughts are to support the bracket from both sides with ss tubing.
Seems easier than cutting the fiberglass. Your thoughts please.
Thanks,

Hey Roger,

If going after the bolt I replaced the original anchor locker hatch with the biggest one that would fit. Crawling in with out it installed give a little more room. Next step is to find a volunteer that will fit.
