My Solution to Short Dinette Legs

Post by coast2coast »

If anyone still needs a solution for this I found one that works for me. Measurements on my boat showed that I needed legs to be 3 1/8" diameter by 14 7/8" long. I checked all of the pipe locally available and of course 2" is too small, 3" is too large, 2 1/2" is close but still a little small at 2 7/8 outside diameter. I might have settled for that, but I would have had to make a 2hr round trip and buy a 20-foot length, so I kept looking. What I found was that 3" round aluminum TUBING is 3" outside diameter, and I could get two pieces custom cut and shipped for about $40.00. I ordered it from Speedy Metals in the .125 wall thickness, which is about what the long legs are. The tolerance of the cut was stated to by -0", +1/8", but when they came one was 1/8" long, the other about 3/16" long. My Sawzall took care of that easily, and now I have two nice aluminum legs that work well for me. The diameter is slightly smaller than "ideal", but when the top is seated on the legs it is very solid and doesn't move around. Here is the link to the tubing I ordered:
