Cruising to Cuba Nov 2016 - Feb 2017 - - Join us?

Travel by private boat to Cuba may soon be a reality, but it may take 6 months or more to get a temporary portage license from the US dept of commerce.
Our very preliminary plans are to depart the FL Keys after the 2016 hurricane season and travel to Cuba, spending 1-2 months there and then (maybe) going to to Cancun / Isla Muheres and points South.

Looking for some experienced cruisers who might like to share in the adventure on their own boat. Let us know your interests.
We will cruise our 2003 PDQ 34. Hull #29

A few days after posting our interest, we heard about Rhumb line's plan to take a flotilla to Cuba in 2017 - - count us in !!!

I'd like to suggest that the organizers consider starting for Cuba in March or April on the north shore and cruising west. Our personal plan would be to depart Cuba after 1-2- months learning/speaking fluent spanish, and either head for the yucatan or return to the FL Keys. The publicity alone should boost the value of these fine boats.

We would be thrilled to have any and all PDQ owners join in this exciting flotilla! Yes, we will be discussing the initial plans at our Dec 5th gathering but we will be posting on our web site any pertinent info. It may be a while as our next flotilla is to Georgian Bay and that will occupy a lot of our planning for the short term! :)

I am hosting a music event in Havana 19-26 August if anyone is interested. Sailing out of Key West, 3 cabins left on the charter boats. Next trip we will also allow privately owned vessels to join (once I get the lay of the land).

Yes, we went twice, once in April and again in August. No surprises. Typical seas. About 16 hours from Key West to Havana. Consistent winds, sailed the whole way, 4-6ft most of the way with long period so mostly comfortable. Seas at night were more calm.
