Hauling Boat - sling / stand placement

Post by lgeller »

PLUSH TOY is going in for some new bottom paint next week - can someone point me to information on where they should (or shouldn't) position the slings to hoist her and stands when she is on the hard?

Thank you

There are 2 small symbol marks, fore and aft, on each hull on our boat indicating where to place the straps. Have you looked at the drawings in your owner's manual? I don't have access to that manual now, but I recall one of the drawings shows the correct spots to place the straps.

Ditto to suggestions above, but be careful as well with blocking -- the skeggs cannot support the weight of the boat.

Larry, what year is your boat? Ours is a 2006 model. I have a PDF copy of our owner's manual, but I'm thinking parts of it may be different for specific years. Also, I do not yet have PDF copies of the architectural drawings the come with the manual. Drawing #ST-03-04 shows the lift points. I'm traveling right now and can look for it when I return next week. You might also contact Rhumbline Yacht Sales -- they seem to have a lot of info about PDQ boats: http://www.rhumblineyachtsales.com/pdq34.htm

Here is the text in my owners manual regarding the lifting the boat:

6-7 HANDLING, STORING AND TRANSPORT ON SHORE (pg34)
The docking plan ST-03-04 shows the preferred locations for nylon lifting slings, for use with a single crane hook or travel lift. As a precaution, secure the slings to cleats or the toe rail to prevent slippage. Make sure that the slings are clear of hull obstructions such as speed Sensor, rudder, skegs and propeller shafts.
The 34 POWERCAT can be transported on a flatbed trailer.

Blocking Instruictions
Use adjustable stands and blocks, and place them at the following positions:
1. Under transoms: the pad must be located under the inboard aft vertical surfaces of the transom
2. Under the holding tank bulkhead on starboard side
3. Under the generator locker bulkhead on port side
4. Lastly, under the main bulkhead, both on port and starboard.
Note: The bulkheads can be located by tapping albng the hull. The bulkhead locations have a solid sound. Drawing ST-03-04 may be used as a guide for blocking.

Thank you everyone. I did find the information in the architectural drawings. There is a lot of info on those pages, so I missed it the first time around.

The boat is going to the yard today - should have her back early next week !

I'm headed into the boat yard next month, and there's a discrepancy between the foreword sling location on the Docking Structure Plan, and the sling location marked on the starboard hull.

The docking plan shows the forward sling in line with the forward house. The starboard hull is marked at the bootstripe with a little black triangle that's located about 44 inches forward of the location shown on the drawing - the triangle is below the middle of the starboard forward rail gate.

I'm Hull 29. Any suggestions Duane ?

Thanks !

Mike,

Our 2006, hull 81 has the triangles marked on the hull in the locations you describe. I had never studied the diagram in the owners manual until you raised the issue. My diagram has the lift points in the same location as your diagram. The boatyards have been using the marks on the hull and that has not resulted in any problems. James Power mike be able to shed some light on the issue if he sees this.

Our dockyard has been hauling out boat for 15 years without any issues. They place the forward lift strap where our lift marks are located (at the front of the cabin). However, the lift guy is very experienced and always place the aft strap slightly AFT of where our hull aft lift triangles are. I know they are always very careful with the AFT strap location so as to avoid placing the strap on anything on the hull that it might damage. AND,I think they prefer placing the AFT strap closer to under the 2 100 HP engines.

hi all,

we have a 2003 and on the early boats pdq had located some of thruhulls differently from the later boats. specifically engine intakes are farther forward, in front of the start of the keels. also, the a/c intake is on the hull floor rather than the side, so blocking is different.

I hauled out last week - here's some photos and info.

Thanks to everyone on my previous post. Hull #29 has starboard side thru-hulls and a transducer in way of the forward sling location shown on the Docking Structure Plan.

Forward sling - I had wanted it positioned so that the aft end of the sling was 22 inches aft of the starboard rail gate, but the sling slid a little farther forward.

Aft sling - at the location as marked by the triangle on the boot-stripe - more or less centered over the port/starboard aft stateroom windows.

I hauled with aft fuel tank at 7/8, forward fuel tank at 1/4 (plus reserve), and water at 1/4.

Total weight was 13,175 #. Forward sling had 5565 #. Aft sling had 7610 #

I'm blocked up next to a fat Marlow, and can't get a good camera angle on the blocking, but will post when she's gone.
