Transmission, Rear Seal

Post by AlanH »

We have a rear transmission seal leaking on the starboard side. It is a slow leak but needs to be fixed.

Has anyone replaced a transmission seal on their 34? If so can it be done while the boat is in the water and without removing the prop?

I am hoping I can unbolt the coupler and the flexible plastic coupler, move the shaft back a little and move it to the side gently to remove the transmission coupler and then the seal. Ant thoughts would certainly be welcome.

we've had 2 sets of seals replaced. both times out of water with prop removed. i just looked now and it looks like there is 6" that the prop can move back. that should be enough to split coupling. i guess it depends on what type of puller you need for the coupling in trans. good luck.
