Reinforced davits?

Post by PDQfan »

Hello All. Attaching a pic of my davits. Can anyone tell me whether these are the old style, prone to failure in rough seas, or are they the reinforced style?

I'm looking for a new dinghy and not sure whether to go with the Highfield 290 Ultralight (86 lbs) or the 290 Classic (130 lbs). Motor is 60lbs. I'd prefer the heavier one for it's features but want to make sure it would work. Either way I will be ratchet strapping it for travel.

Thanks,
Bryan

Bryan,

They are not the latest style of davit, but they sure look to be much more reinforced than the earlier models.

As you point out, the key is to secure such that there is no movement in a seaway.
