RUDDER PACKING

Post by bjgin »

What size packing do we use for the rudder? I'm guessing 1/4"?

Yes. Three rows of 1/4" flax per rudder shaft. I just did this and needed around 3 feet to do BOTH...

Hey All,

Speaking of rudders, there were a few different designs on how the rudder stock was secured from slipping down. If yours has a bronze collar with set screws installed above the packing gland nut it’s a good idea to confirm the set screws are tight and the shaft has been dimpled to receive the screws.
