Peeling paint

The forward beam on my 4+ yr old 32 (hull 21, Third Wish) has badly blistered
and peeling white enamel paint. Same at mast foot. Preparing to go ahead and
sand/repaint, but wish I knew the root cause. Would have guessed some form of
corrosion, but not sure how to prevent in the future. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Tom, Haven't seen you in a while. We were on your boat when you had it
delivered in Annapolis. From that visit we bought Duet (#22). The problem on the
crossmember on mine was caused by the interaction of those brass slides that
they used in the corners of the tramp. I had them replace the slides with a sail
tape arrangement that is now standard. I got rid of the blisters by sanding down
to the metal and then re painting with a good primer and then good high gloss
paint. That was a year and a half ago

I also had the problem in the area of the mounts for the cross beam and so I
took off the cross member and then put it all back together when I was done

Taking outthe cross member is a lot eaisier than you sould think. Undo the
roller furling holding the mast up with halyards and take out tow bolts and
there you are. Good luck

Dan & Sally - Duet :-)
