in the water storage tips

Hi all, sorry I missed the Annapolis get-together. I was at the boat show on
Thurs AM, but went sailing for the rest of the weekend

Question: I am leaving my 32 in the water at our Kent Island marina this winter

I have some concerns about buildup of moisture, mildew, etc- any suggestions on
avoiding? I do have the Cruisair, and was thinking about either having someone
turn on the heat for a day every three weeks or so, or placing one of those
little thermostatically-controlled heaters on the sole in each hull (or both)

Thoughts? Other in-the-water winterization tips?
Thanks,
Chris

I left my 32 in the water (with the engines up) 2 years ago, with little ill
effect. It was on the Potomac near DC, and the water was brackish and tidal,
which eased the accumulation of ice. For some reason, the worst ice (about 3
inches) surrounded the boat, but left clear water under the bridge deck. I had
emptied the water tank and pumped pink stuff through all the lines, and thru the
head. I had to top off the batteries with distilled water every month, because
the solar panels worked as advertised. The waterpump froze and cracked, and the
top gasket in the head pump failed. I did not use a cabin heater because the
marina proscribed them. I think I could have gotten away with putting one on a
timer

This spring I made the mistake of flushing the water system with well water at
Herrington Harbor. Odorific. Next spring I'll fill with better water, and use
clorox.
