FISHING

This is a good idea for sharing information. Thanks!
John and I will be sailing south in October on ALGOMA, or PDQ36, and with any
luck, we might be able to check up with Mike in the Bahamas. I have a question
about fishing..especially trolling while sailing. How do you do it? What tackle
is needed? How and Where on the PDQ to you deal with the stuff around killing
and cleaning and cutting up the fish? I have references about killing, etc, but
as of now, I just haven't pictured how it is going to happen. I would much
rather eat fresh fish, when I can

On another note, John is in the process of installing radar, other equipment,
we've added shelving, so have some opinions, and would be glad to share what and
why we have done what we did. I would love to hear about what works and doesn't
work so well while crusing the Bahamas

Thanks

MDK

The VERY best book on fishing that I have EVER seen is "The Cruiser's Handbook
of Fishing" by Scott and Wendy Bannerof. Everything from equipment, how to,
cleaning, cooking, etc. etc. 400+ pages packed with readable info. Try
amazon.com for a good price on the book and fast shipping. Let me know if you
like it as much as I do!

Hi Mary & John,
Thanks for your help with the spinnaker. I'll try it that way next time

I'm not much of a fisherman, but we trolled a line on the way back from Bermuda &
caught 3 dolphin fish. We used an outrigger weight to get the lure down from the
surface. We threw them all back.We had more than enough food already. As far as
cleaning, I think the bast way is to make fillets, then skin them. That way you
don't have all the scales & guts to clean up,plus there are no bones

Hope to see you in Annapolis

Regards Marc & Zahava

Hi Mary

I have a single pole that I have used for trolling (while sailing) for Coho
Salmon and Lake Trout. However, where I am (Lake Michigan, fresh water), most
trout and coho are caught in deeper water than I can get the lure to. I have
used a dipsy-diver to get the lure down, but haven't had much luck. Complicating
this also is the fact that coho and trout are usually caught in trolling speeds
of less than 2 knots

I use a stardard "clamp-on" rod holder on the back rail. I have a net, an empty
cooler, and a squirt bottle of alcohol ready in the locker below, in case I ever
catch anything
