SPINNAKER

Posted by Marc Gershel on August 26, 1999 at 12:05:36:

Well, I finally got the guts to try the spinnaker that came with my PDQ36

Everything went great until I tried to put that big 'GENIE' back in the bottle

I have a sock, but I couldn't figure out how to dump the wind so that I could
pull the sock down. Even so, I had a terrific time with it, but I would like to
know the right way to handle it

Thanks, Marc

Hi Marc, hope you got your rudder fixed

The best way to get the spinnaker down is to blanket it with either the main or
genny. If you are sailing with the main and spinnaker then you can change course
to bring the spinnaker behind the main but without jibing. Let the sheet out so
that the spinnaker flutters and you should have no trouble pulling the sock
down. If you are sailing under spinnaker alone then unroll the genny and get the
spinnaker behind it then proceed as above. Works for me.
