Cleaning the Bottom?

Cleaning the Bottom?

Dear Kevin,
What a great idea - thanks for putting this together

Question:[/i]

We live in the Pacific Northwest where 12 to 15 foot tides are a daily
occurance. We are rapidly approaching the need to clean the long green stuff off
of the bottom. Since travel lifts for our size boat are not readily available,
we are thinking of making use of God's travel lift. Have any of you ---
intentionally -- pulled your boat into shallow water and waited for the tide to
go out and just set the boat on its keels in the sand? I am concerned about
damaging the rudders, thru hulls, etc. Any thoughts???? We did this with our
F-27 on a regular basis, but a PDQ 36 is a whole lot more boat

Thanks,
Richard Sapp

Richard;
Why don't you hire a bottom cleaning service to clean the bottom. It costs about
$45.00 to have Oceania's bottom cleaned

I regularly clean the hull this way but in Virginia the tides are small and it
is usually a matter of mooring in shallow calm water. I have been told by PDQ
that there should be no problem beaching the boat (PDQ 36) providing the bottom
is smooth and there is no vigorous wave action that would cause the boat to
pound up and down on the sand.

A week ago, we just had a boat-cleaning party for Phenix on Ohio Street Beach
(Chicago). We pulled Phenix up to the beach (no tide in Lake Michigan) and then
anchored her in 3 feet of water so there was only a few inches below the keels
(at times, the port keel was on the sand). About 5 of us got out and cleaned
then entire bottom with brushes, it took about 30-40 minutes
