What kind of 'chute?

We're outfitting Loki, our year old LRC36, for the traditional ICW cruise from
Maine to the Keys, with a hop to the Bahamas. I'm wondering what type of 'chute
is recommended by those who have gone before. Our interest is light air
performance, that is, we want to increase the range where we'll be sailing
rather than powering. I'm assuming that an asymmetrical in a sock would get some
use - is this the best bet? Do we need one custom tailored for a PDQ, or would a
"budget" sail be virtually as good? Any advise would be appreciated

We have a conventional chute on Bullwinkle which I prefer because (a) I like the
fact that the sail is not as easy to blanket as a cruising spinnaker or (b)
because I like annoynace ;-)Actually in light air I prefer a conventional chute
because it can still get wind even with partial blanketing due to projecting so
far across the boat. You have to watch for wrapping around the headstay in real
light air and if you;ve worked with a pole, it's harder to trim from
snatchblocks on the sheet and guy than by moving the pole, but I still prefer
it. We also have an ATN sleeve which is a big help. The luff measurement on mine
is about 40 feet and it's a triradial. Simon can give you dimensions and any
sail maker can whip one up.

We have a genneker in a shoot for our 32. It was cut down from one we had on our
36' monohull. I think you can make almost anything work if it is not too big

Factory could probbly give you a rough idea and you could shop from there

I would not buy for the intercoastal only. If it isn't winding all over the
place, it is straight and tree lined. Now coming back from the Bahamas was a
diferent story, 8 hour down runs are great.
