Proper cruising rpm for Yanmars?

Post by Half Moon 36073 »

I've not seen published a suggested rpm for the 18 hp Yanmars. Anyone have information? Alex Kehayes 36073

I run them a bit under 3000. The redline is 3600, and the wisdom I've heard is to run at about 80-85% of redline. With no load (in neutral), you should be able to rev right up to 3600, but in gear wide open they top out at 3200 with a clean bottom, somewhat less at the end of the season.

I added proper temperature gauges and a while back I noticed the engeins ran very hot over 2700. It turned out the heat exchangers were clogged with eel grass. Flushed out I can run wot and the temp stays under 170.
