Carpet runners

Post by thinwater »

The ones that came to me with the boat a toast, sheading foam like mad. We like the carpet for protecting the floors, reducing skids from wet feet, and warmth in cool weather.

I would like to have runners to cover the floors (PDQ 32) instead of a collection of door mats, but all of the runners I have found are 24" wide.

Thoughts?

You didn't say which width you are looking for, and since we have the 36' - can't measure but our runner is 23" x 60". I found great selection in the bath & kitchen section at the local Target store and the dollar store - cannot remember if it was Dollar General or the other one. I know IKEA has great selections also, and there is a rubber mat that you can stitch to the bottom if you can't find one with foam rubber backing like we have.

I should have been more clear; on the PDQ 32 the runners are all 18" wide. I would like to find the stuff on the roll, so they can be cut to proper length. What we have is a collection of door mats and bath mats that work fairly well.

Drew - I also want to add to our carpeted area, and kept looking for something that would work. I found an online store that sells 5' x 8' size olefin carpet with nonskid backing that can be cut to fit. Google Madison Wall To Wall Bathroom Carpet - found at BedBathStore. Happy cruising!

It might come to that, and I had considered that. However, the PO had some 18" x 5' runners they got somewhere...

Thanks

Hey Guys,

We have been using carpet on our boat for the last 28 years and love it. It adds warmth and comfort in the colder temperatures up north, and does a great job of controlling sand when down island. We usually buy a length of a roll ( 12 ' wide ), cut the carprt to fit, and take it to a carpet shop to have bound. This also protects the beautiful teak and holly PDQ floors. Because the square footage is low... replacing the carpet when worn, and changing the colour, is not going to break the bank. James
