Stacking sail covers

Our cover took some damage where the lazyjacks tie in. I wanted to re-build it a little larger to loosen it up .(Sam you were right, bigger is better) My original design had the bottom of the cover open for ventilation but now I'm not sure.

How are other stacking covers designed? Open bottom or closed all around?

Mine is open bottom, straps hold the bottom together above the boom but under the sail.

Mine attaches just as Lady's does - open at the bottom with strap that run between the sail & the boom.
I've had to get extra cloth reinforcement panels where the lazy jacks rub against the cover though.

Just an idea to throw around...

I took the stackpack purchased from indycanvas.com which had straps sewn in along the bottom to hold the 2 sides together at the bottom, and cut off one end and added a snap to one end (and associated snap on the sailpack side) so that the pack can be installed and removed without removing the sail. Since the straps go between the slugs holding the sail to the boom, the sail had to come off and go back on with the pack simultaneously. Now the straps can be slipped through at the appropriate places between the slugs. Just a thought.

Good idea. My main is loose footed so I don't have to pull it anyways.

The Mack Pack that I just installed has the same setup as the Indycanvas in the previous post by Sam.

fredandkathy - watch where the lazy jack lines thread thru the mack pack - there's significant wear in those spots

Gary's right. That's what prompted the rework of my sailcover. I had also learned that a loose cover is way better than a tight one so I enlarged it at the same time. Looks good now.
