Insurance

Post by bg5w »

I recently relocated my PDQ 32 from Hilton Head SC to Bradenton, FL. I notified my insurance company of the move. My annual premiums are to be increased from $1400/year to $4200/year! This is obviously due to increased risk from 'named' storms. I am currently with Progressive, and have never had a claim with them.

If I raise the dedductible for a named storm from $5000 to $10000, the premium is reduced to $3200.

What have others done in the fine state of Florida to help control insurance costs? No - can't blame this one on Obamacare-

Bob,
I pay $1200/yr for the Anne Z in Chicago and $3200/yr for Cat Tales in Punta Gorda (with $10K named storm deductible). That's from Progressive through USAA. So about the same as you.

I got a quote a couple months ago from Sam Densler's guy in Florida, but Sam got grandfathered into a pre-hurricane program and they can't offer a rate that cheap anymore. Best he could do was $3800 with 10K storm deductible.

My policy is prepaid for the year and expires in December, so I'm starting to shop around more. I'll post what I find, but I'm not optimistic that it will be cheaper.

Try these people. Don't know if they can do any better, but it's worth a phone call.

My guy is now able to write those policies again! You ALL need to call him, far and away the BEST rates out there...And I had a total loss claim on my pre-PDQ vessel and they handled it perfectly...

Paul Phaneuf

Ask to talk directly with Paul for the boat rates. You can tell him I sent you. I have no financial interest here, just a very happy customer. I now have EVERYTHING with him...

Terry,

A huge thank you for the tip. I contacted them and now in the process of insuring with Seaworthy Insurance Co. Instead of my annual rate going from $1400 to $4200, it's now only going up to $1700 per year - same coverage as before.

Sam,
That is the place I called and they said they were only licensed to sell insurance to Florida registered boats.Matt Barres, referred me to Total Dollar Insurance. I have not contacted them yet.

When Phenix started doing charters, I had to switch from State Farm. I now have Seaworthy. I am in Illinois. Rate quoted was half of what others quoted. My contact:
