9.9 Yamaha starting

Post by SteppingStone »

I'm trying to start my 9.9 outside of the boat without the start switch. I can "jump" the starter but am unsure of what other wires (start switch, coil etc.) should be jumped - Does anyone know? Roger Wood

Hi Roger,

That should "get her going". The voltage to provide spark is generated by the engine itself.
I would leave the battery wires attached also to absorb the generator output. To shut the engine off you will need to ground (to black) the white wire from the CDI. Do not run the engine unless you put the lower unit in a bucket of water (or ears) or you will ruin the water pump by running it dry.
